Walk to Defeat ALS

On Sunday October 1st NECA & IBEW Local 90 JATC is “Walking to Defeat ALS” at Lighthouse Point Park New Haven. The fifth year apprenticeship class has organized a team to help and support the community by raising awareness and money to help find a cure for this crippling disease. Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.

Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries. The class is walking this year in memory of Brother Edward Asplund. Ed was an outstanding member of IBEW Local 90 for over forty years before losing his battle to ALS.

Please help support the 5th Year Class by signing up to walk or make a donation for this worthy cause.
